So, as I was saying, we started updating our home last year. We are on a tight budget (like the majority of people) and are doing most of the work ourselves. I love vintage furniture, thrift store finds and DIY projects and Jesse can build anything,so it's working out well. We still have a long way to go, but here is where we are at - lots of rooms in various stages of completion.
First up is our front entry way, which includes couple of my favorite DIY project posts like the stamped curtains and doorknob coat hooks.
Our most recently completed room is the living room area of the dining / living room. As I was taking photos, it hit me that the only new-new furniture pieces are the sofa and area rug. The rest is upcycled, thrifted, vintage, etc. Just the way we like it! More photos and information in this post.
We wrapped up the dining room area in June of 2014, I love it so much! Jesse made the dining table as well as the barn door. My crafty contributions were the yarn bombed light shade and wall art. Before pictures and more info here.
I painted the kitchen cabinets and backsplash in February of 2014. The swiss style crosses on the chalkboard backsplash are my favorite part! There are before pictures and more information about the makeover here and here.
The office looks a little different from this today, but I'm still not thrilled about it. I think having two doors in the room makes the layout difficult. I'll figure it out, eventually!
I have a gray and yellow thing going on in our bedroom, which looks lovely, but I'd like to change it up to add a little more personality and make it less "matchy-matchy." I think may favorite part is the mid-century highboy! It's a vintage Drexel piece I found at an estate sale for next to nothing. Seriously, folks high quality, solid wood furniture costs a fortune these days. Estate sales are where it's at! You can see more photos and details on our Master Bedroom Makeover- Reveal post.
Our bathroom is teeny tiny, but I love it. Unfortunately, the space is getting mildewy because we need to install a bigger fan, so the walls will be painted again in the near future. More photos and info about the bathroom in this post.
Our house is modestly sized, but our yard and deck are ginormous! Jesse re-built the deck during the summer of 2014 and it was one of my first blog posts.
Awesome house!! I love the tree growing through your deck!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Katie! Jesse sure is proud of that deck, I'm sure your compliment will put a little pep in his step :)
DeleteWe have a similar master bedroom color scheme going on with the yellow and charcoal! Love the chevrons.
ReplyDeleteLove what you've done so far! We also have a pretty plain 1950s ranch. Love your style.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Lisa!
